Nyx support
Nyx isn’t on the App Store yet. If you haven’t installed it, the install steps are on the home page.
Turn on Nyx on Mac
- Open the Nyx app once.
- In Safari, choose Safari → Settings → Extensions.
- Select the checkbox next to Nyx.
- Allow Nyx on all websites. You can narrow this down later under Edit Websites.
Turn on Nyx on iPhone and iPad
- Open the Nyx app once.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions.
- Tap Nyx and turn it on.
- Under permissions, allow Nyx on All Websites.
After that, the extensions button in Safari’s address bar opens the Nyx menu, where you can change settings for the site you’re on.
Common questions
Nyx is on, but pages are still light.
First check that Nyx is allowed on that website (see the steps above). If the status is Auto, Nyx only darkens pages while your device is in Dark Mode or during your schedule. Choose On to keep it on all the time. Tabs that were open before you turned Nyx on may need a reload.
A website looks wrong with Nyx.
Open the Nyx menu on that website. You can try another theme, turn Nyx off for that site only, or choose Pause Until Tomorrow. To get it fixed, choose Report a problem in the same menu. It opens a local screenshot review where you can black out private areas, inspect the image at actual size, and edit the report details. Choose Copy screenshot and continue to open a GitHub issue draft, then paste the reviewed image and submit the issue yourself. You can also continue without a screenshot.
Why doesn’t Nyx change a website that already has a dark mode?
A site’s own dark design usually looks better than anything Nyx can generate, so Nyx leaves it alone. If you’d rather use your Nyx theme there, turn on Ignore built-in dark mode for that website in the Nyx menu.
Can I make my own theme?
Yes. In Nyx’s settings, open Themes and pick a background color, a text color, image brightness and grayscale. Any theme can be shared as a link.
Do my settings sync between devices?
On Apple devices, yes, as long as you’re signed in to iCloud. Settings go through your own iCloud account. In Chrome and Firefox, Nyx uses the browser’s built-in sync instead.
Does Nyx collect my browsing data?
No. Nyx doesn’t collect any data. The privacy policy explains what it does read and why.
